GeoGebra

GeoGebra is a website for dynamic interactive software
(a reoccurring phrase in the CCSS!). This website has resources that others have created that are ready for you to use today! You can also create your own lesson or activity for free. The software has features that are useful for Algebra (function notation) and Geometry (perpendicular bisectors). There are many videos on how to create your own lessons or to view the lessons of others at GeoGebra Tube.

Desmos

This website is another dynamic software option where you can "graph functions, plot tables of data, evaluate equations, explore transformations, and more." You can create your own or explore lessons already created by others. There are a lot of advanced math topics on this website through calculus and beyond! There is even an area specifically for math teachers.

IXL

This website is extremely organized and has activities to go with practically every skill/standard in every math course at every grade level. I used this website for independent practice on my hybrid course. Students answer questions while the program keeps score and the difficulty increases as the students work through the problems. IXL also gives students a thorough break down and explanation when they get a problem incorrect.

Resources for Teachers

Below is a library of resources that I have collected through both my graduate work and teaching experiences. I have grouped them into math resources and general teacher resources. The math resources are meant for teachers to use to develop lessons but some can also be a good resource for students. I have a variety of general teacher resources, ranging from websites with sample lessons or behavior interventions, to a website that allows you to create a free screencast. This collection of resources is meant for myself and my colleagues.

Graphing Tool

You can graph almost any high school math concept using this free online graphing calculator. Just like a graphing calculator, students can create multiple graphs at the same time to compare their properties or to find intersections. I used this tool when I created my hybrid course so that students who do not have a graphing calculator can still participate.

Life Applications

Dan Meyer, an educator, has made a ton of everyday math problems and questions come to life with videos. He has a live binder with all of these videos that he has made public. Each problem/video is aligned to a CCSS, has questions for the students to ponder, information for the teacher, and extension problems. I have some of his videos in my class as an attention getter to introduce a topic. I have also used them at the end of a unit as an application.  I highly recommend his work.

National Library of Virtual Manipulatives

This library contains resources for every grade level and a variety of math topics including numbers and operations, algebra, geometry, measurement, and data analysis and probability. All of the categories include dozens of virtual manipulatives and each include a challenge for the students to work on. These manipulatives could be used to explore a new topic or to practice a learned concept.

Free Technology for Teachers Blog

This blog has thousands of posts that include articles, links, and videos about free technology resources that are on the web for teachers to use. Each article is also archived all the way back to 2007. You can read the current posts for the latest in technology news, or search the website for a resource that you have heard about what want to learn more.

Remind

This free service allows teachers to send out a one-way text message to students or parents. You type your message on the website so it is sent without using your phone so students do not know your number. You can also schedule messages that you want sent out in the future. I use this website for coaching, which is helpful for last minute changes or friendly reminders.

Jing

This free service allows you to capture an image of your screen and easily share it. It also allows you to capture a video of your computer screen while recording audio over it creating a screencast. Although the videos are limited to 5 minutes, you can share them quickly and easily. This is great for creating quick tutorials which is exactly what I used it for in my hybrid course.

Teaching Channel

This website has two purposes. It is an online community of educators and a library of videos on teaching and learning. I personally have not joined the community by creating a profile but I have watched several videos. You can search for a video by subject, grade level, or topic such as behavior or coaching. The videos include sample lessons as well as interviews with teachers who are collaborating and reflecting on their practice.

Intervention Central

There are a plethora of resources available on this website all related to different interventions. You can find ideas for both academic and behavior interventions for specific content areas and for specific disabilities. There are a lot of free resources available on this site but you can also purchase larger items for your school or find a workshop to attend near you.

Teachers Pay Teachers

This website is "an open marketplace where educators buy, sell, and share original teaching resources." You can search by grade level, subject, price, or simiply type a topic or unit into the search bar. The resources range from free to $10 and up. You can also communicate with the creator and other educators that have tried the resource in the comments section at the end of every resource. I use this website often throughout the school year when I am looking for a change or new idea.
